In the early 1970s, two Italian filmmakers took a pregnant 16-year-old junky named Anna under their wings. They filmed her adaptation from life in the streets to normalcy, using a video camera, a rarity at the time. Transferred to 16mm film and recently restored by the film lab L`Immagine Ritrovata, the film is portrait of the dynamic between filmmaker and subject.

MASSIMO SARCHIELLI
MASSIMO SARCHIELLI

Born in 1931 in Florence, he began his career as a mime before becoming a renowned actor in Italy. His film-acting debut was in Federico Fellini’s Juliet of the Spirits (1965). Other notable roles were in Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Conformist (1970), Paolo Taviani and Vittorio Tavian’s The Night of the Shooting Stars (1982) and Richard Donner’s Ladyhawke (1985). He died in 2010, at the age of 79. Anna, the project he filmed with Alberto Grifi, was his only film as a director.
ALBERTO GRIFI
ALBERTO GRIFI

Born in 1938 in Rome. One of the first Italian experimental film directors, he began to get involved with photography from a young age. His film debut Cristo `63 (1963) was censored by Italian politicians and all known copies were destroyed. His documentary Anna, co-directed with Massimo Sarchielli, became a cult classic after its first festival run. He died in 2007, at the age of 68.
